I really haven’t got the time

I’ll be taking a break from blogging from now until January as I’m about so start a new freelance contract and ‘work comes first, I’m sure you’ll understand’. I was hoping to write a post summarizing the cavalry tactics series, but it’s still too complicated and uncertain for any definite conclusions. When I come back I’ll be blogging about some different things. I’m planning new projects involving digital history and WW1, so expect to see more about that sort of thing and less about early-modern cavalry. I think my blogging is starting to resemble TV seasons: I’ve posted regularly about cavalry (and also the Wharton letters running at the same time) since August, but now it’s finished and after a break will be replaced by something different.

I don’t have a TV (so I can’t comment on TV seasons), but I like never-ending stories (like those involving early modern wars).
WW1 is way to late (and didn’t involve enough cavalry to be interesting).
If you really feel you do have to change your topics: how about early modern naval warfare and logistics?
Anyway: best wishes for your work in the context of your freelance contract! But: Do come back here, please!

I haven’t completely abandoned early modern military history. It will be back for another series eventually. The other stuff I do in the meantime will feed back into in one way or another. For example, researching cavalry operations in 1914 should help me to understand cavalry operations in the English Civil War. The BEF’s Cavalry Corps was the biggest concentration of British cavalry ever, as far as I know – nearly 10 times bigger than the New Model Army’s cavalry – and much better documented in most respects.

I’m closing this thread and deleting comments about That Thing to prevent drive-by trolls.
Meanwhile I want to reiterate that I’m NOT giving up on early-modern history. I’m planning my blogging schedule for next year and can guarantee at least one early-modern post every month.
